The National Sleep Foundation recommends the average person should catch seven to nine hours of sleep each night. Lack of sleep can lead to several health issues including heart problems and obesity.

HuffingtonPost Healthy Living recently shared a list of eight scary side effects caused by a lack of sleep.

  1. Increased stroke risk
  2. Obesity
  3. Increased diabetes risk
  4. Memory loss
  5. Increased chance of osteoporosis and changes in bone mineral density and bone marrow
  6. Increased risk of cancer
  7. Increased risk of developing or dying from heart disease
  8. In severe cases, it can directly lead to death (studies have shown short sleepers die younger)
