Weight and Stress Affected by Sleep


Research conducted by the University of Chicago links poor health to poor sleep habits. It's hard to feel great when sleep-deprived - and U of C researchers agree. Not only are humans more susceptible to illness, but obesity, too. "With less sleep, certain hormones responsible for shutting off appetite correctly are not secreted and people eat more as a result,” stated website HealthyAnswers.com in the San Francisco Chronicle's article.

In the article, Mark Rosenberg, M.D. for HealthyAnswers.com, puts lack-of-sleep implications in perspective. If a person is sleeping six hours or less, he said, the body is unable to fully recharge its battery, which is one of the major benefits of sleep. Rosenberg recommends unwinding with relaxing and stress-reducing exercise or drinking calming tea to prepare the body for a great night’s rest.
