Beware of Bed Bug Monsters!

Beware of Bed Bug Monsters! - It was a dark and stormy night.

The children were tucked in, but sleep had not fallen. For there were monsters afoot. They were sure of it.

Eli, the eldest, had heard great tales of creatures who feast on youngsters, preying upon them in their sleep, then disappearing into the darkness. Because of this, Eli made sure one eye stayed open at all times. No creak, bump, or whistle in the wind went unnoticed, either.

Once in awhile, Sam, Eli’s younger brother, would rise. Flashlight in hand, he would make his rounds, inspecting the closet, outside the window, behind the willow tree, and on the floor beneath Eli’s mattress. He found nothing.

Despite Eli and Sam’s vigilance, the monsters crept toward them, hungry for blood and skin. In the stillness, they waited for the perfect moment to strike. They were silent, invisible, and completely undetected.

For these monsters did not emerge from a secret passageway in the closet, or from behind the willow tree.

These vile creatures lurked…INSIDE. THEIR. BEDS!!!

Of all the things your children will experience on Halloween, this may be the scariest! That’s because bed bug horror stories and tales of dust mites aren’t fantasy. These tiny monsters feed on your children’s blood and dead skin, leaving behind bites and allergens that steal their sleep and terrorize good health. Let's get to know these ghouls.

Bed bugs

Bed BugsBed bugs are small, reddish-brown insects that are about the shape and size of an apple seed. But these aren’t apples you want to bob for! Devious and evil, bed bugs creep into tiny hiding spots in bedding, where they await their next victim. Bed bugs are creatures of the night, where, like vampires, they feed on the blood of people and pets. Don’t let their small size fool you! Bed bug bites are itchy and irritating.

Dust mites

Dust MitesDust mites are relatives of spiders and ticks…oooh scary!!! They feast on the dead skin cells of the living, both shed by people and their pets. Undetectable to the naked eye, they pass like ghosts through your home, haunting mattresses and pillows, upholstered furniture, and carpeting.

But these horror stories don’t have to be real life. Arm yourself with these tips (plus a cross, holy water, and wooden stake for good measure), and you can ward off these apparitions:

  1. Install mattress protection

Don’t let your mattress become a crypt for dust mites and bed bugs. A quality mattress protector locks them out (no skeleton key necessary). The AllerZip Allergy, Dust Mite & Bed Bug Proof 6-Sided Waterproof Mattress Or Box Spring Encasement delivers 360-degree protection.

  2. Install pillow protection, too

Quality pillow protectors offer the same barrier mattress protectors do, providing no resting place for the wicked. The AllerZip Allergy, Dust Mite & Bed Bug Proof Pillow Covers, 2-Pack keeps both pillows completely protected.

  3. Exorcize your home

Like sunlight to a vampire, dust mites shrivel in lower humidity levels. Keeping indoor humidity between 30 and 50% is like a stake to their hearts. So is routine mopping, dusting, vacuuming with a HEPA filter-equipped vacuum cleaner, and proper laundering and heat-drying of bedding. And you don’t need torches and pitchforks to rid the town of bed bugs.
